According to Digital Foundry, the upgraded PSSR upscaling technology on PlayStation 5 Pro has been tested across several major games, including Silent Hill f, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, Monster Hunter Wilds, and Dragon Age: The Veilguard.
The improved version—often referred to as “PSSR2”—is part of the joint Project Amethyst initiative between Sony and AMD. Tests show significantly cleaner images, reduced noise and flickering, sharper foliage, and more stable anti-aliasing compared to the original PSSR.
One of the biggest improvements was seen in Silent Hill f, where earlier visual issues like shimmering vegetation and unstable lighting were largely resolved. Other titles also saw clearer edges, better detail, and more stable motion. Importantly, early tests suggest the upgraded PSSR delivers these visual gains without increasing performance costs or lowering frame rates.
Sony says the tested builds use developer-integrated versions of the new technology rather than a simple system-level toggle. Future machine-learning features on PS5 Pro are still uncertain.
Do you think this upgraded PSSR finally delivers the visual upgrade many players expected from the PS5 Pro?
